Social Networking Firm Announces 100 Most "Social Brands" for 2008.
ATLANTA, May 1, 2009 -- Social network marketing firm Vitrue has released their ranking of the 100 most discussed brands on social networks for 2008.
Social networks consist of blogs and web sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Second Life and Photobucket whereby individuals, organizations and businesses can connect, interact, and share content. The company Vitrue specializes their marketing services for these web-based forums and have created their so-called Social Media Index (SMI).
The Vitrue SMI calculates scores by monitoring brand conversations on a daily basis and created a series of algorithms to reflect the frequency of usage, the size of the social media environment, and the magnitude of the conversation. The result is a single numeric score for each brand: the Vitrue Social Media Index (SMI). It should be noted the Vitrue Top 100 Most Social Brands were determined by averaging the SMI scores for each brand across each day in December 2008. Allowances were made to account for the fact that people often do not use a product’s full name in online conversations to reflect the way people actually speak and type about brands.
The result is a ranked list of the brands which are supposedly the most talked about on the social web.
