NY Man Arrested With $225K In Counterfeit Jeans And Track Suits.

HAWTHORNE, November 21, 2008 -- A man from East Hanover was arrested and charged with a felany after a traffic stop revealed the man's van was loaded with counterfeit clothing worth an estimated $225,000.

Frank Dellisanti, 33, was driving his van past Westchester County Police Headquarters at 11 p.m. when Officer Emil Garcia pulled his police cruiser behind Dellisanti. Officer Garcia observed that a taillight on Dellisanti's van was not working and pulled the van over. Upon approaching the van, Garcia observed that the van was filled to the ceiling with clothing.

Police spokewoman Kieran O'Leary stated that officers noticed that Dellisanti's van was also unusually low to the ground.

Dellisanti was in possession of approximately 800 pairs of jeans bearing counterfeit trademarks from brands like True Religion and Citizens of Humanity. Genuine jeans from these companies carry a retail price tag of about $200. Dellisanti was also in possession of about 100 counterfeit track suits with counterfeit Juicy Couture trademarks. Authentic track suits of this brand retail from $100 to $150.

In addition to having counterfeited trademarks, the merchandise also had phoney price tags from well-known department stores to make the merchandise appear more authentic.

"Our detectives are still working out what he was doing with the merchandise, but he appeared to be heading to what is known as a 'jeans party'," O'Leary said. According to O'Leary, 'jeans parties' are sales conducted in private settings like people's homes.

"We believe he was going to these parties selling counterfeit jeans in the $50 to $80 range for products that normally retail for $200 to $400," O'Leary said.

O'Leary said the police did not know specifically where Dellisanti was headed.

"The other aspect that we're still investigating is what is the source of his merchandise," O'Leary said. "Oftentimes these items are manufactured abroad and imported."
